| About me and my artwork: |
| Maureen began to expand her creative skills by taking a summer course in fine arts at university. She later studied painting on silk with Hilary Scanlon at St. Lawrence College. Recently shefound to her delight a new way of seeing artistically. She found joy in in creating animal portraits. Maureen discovered a sensual, tactile energy in simple graphite drawings that had not been a part of her earlier experiences. Pets bring so much joy into our everyday lives. Maureen tries to tell something of their story when she draws or paints them. Sally, a brown tabby cat has her very expressive eyes wide open and her head held high as she looks directly into your heart. This is quite different from when she was brought home and tried to make herself as small as possible and held her eyes cast down so she wouldn't be noticed. Damian is a very senior gentlecat who for all his years still keeps his kittenish ways - tossing his hair scrunchies up high in the air and running after them. Pets and wildlife can teach us so much about ourselves. Some of my projects embody these teachings; others are intended to bring light into your heart simply by viewing. Other art pieces are loving depictions of the pet or person just as they are - a keepsake to blend with our memories. |
