Mona Likes to Cut Loose on The Weekends
"Mona likes to cut Loose on the Weekends"
14" x 18"
Acrylic on canvas

I began drawing almost as soon as I could walk. When I first picked up a pencil and began to draw it did not take long for me to realize that I could create new worlds through art. That these worlds lived in my magination and that I could bring them alive through art was simultaneously absorbing and exciting, even as a child. I still find this to be true today. Color vibrancy, strength of line, and fantasy are the three primary characteristics of my work, qualities that have not been diminished by time or preconceived notions of what art should or should not be. Beauty is in the details. The natural world is extravagant, bursting with life. From insects and invertebrates to emus and elephants, the planet is a complex organism, supporting all life within a delicate balance. Inspiration for me as a painter and sculptor comes from nature. Rainforests and oceans are among the last vestiges of wild earth. Inspiration and Imagination are the vehicles which transport me beneath the waves and underneath the forest canopy. Surrounded by myth and mystery, I seek to recreate these places in my paintings, for these places exist as solidly in the emotional realm as in the physical one.
