About Me
I have been interested in drawing and painting as far back as I can remember. Memories of using the back of left over wallpaper that I would tape to my bedroom wall and cover with my drawings are still vivid. It seemed only natural that I went on to study at Art College where I was encouraged to develop my skills.
On leaving college I quickly settled down to domesticity and took time out to raise my two children but continued to paint for pleasure as well as family and friends. It was only when the children were older that I felt the time was right to pursue a career in art.
Although my first love was portraiture and people my favourite subject to paint or draw has to be animals, dogs in particular. Each animal has their own unique character and personality, be it through a twist of the head or sparkle in their eyes, and it is this that I look for and aim to capture. I like to draw in great detail and accurately portray the texture of animals hair. Watching the portrait develop from start to finish is always a delight and if finally I can step back and feel as if I could stroke the animal then I'm satisfied.
When working I like to use colour pencils, graphite pencils, pastels or acrylics but am at my happiest using colour pencils. They are most suited to my style of working and I find them to be very forgiving in terms of the amount of control and fine detail that can be achieved.
Now working as a pet portrait artist I consider myself lucky to be doing something I get great enjoyment from. Every commission I have accepted has been a fresh challenge and one which I have enthusiastically approached. Having been accepted and been commended on various pet commissions locally I am now looking to expand and take orders nationally and internationally. |
