I have been drawing animals for as long as I can
remember. I grew up in an artistic family with both my parents being
interested in wildlife and animals. In high school I took advanced
art classes with a fantastic teacher and did very well.

Following high school I attended Oregon State University where I majored in animal science. These studies gave me an intimate understanding of domestic animal subjects. Outside of art I am involved in showing and training a myriad of different kinds of animals as well. I continued to draw throughout my time in college and began doing pet portraits for commission in 1999.

One of the things that I love about art is the diversity of mediums that one can choose to work in. My favorite mediums are graphite pencil, scratchboard, wood burning (pyrographics), colored pencils and ink. I also strive for realism in my artwork. Something I find very important in animal drawings is capturing the personality of the animal that I am drawing.

For me animals are more than a subject to be drawn,
they are a lifelong passion!
