Bev Clark
"Caught Napping "
8-1/2" x 11-3/4"
Pencil & Conté

From as early as she can remember, Bev Clark has had two constant passions in her life: horses-with their indomitable spirit and grace-and the need to capture every nuance of that beauty on paper.

Clark’s formal training as a commercial artist, specifically, in graphic design, brought discipline and confidence to an innate artistic ability. In addition, her other career, as a Farrier, has given her an understanding of the physiology of the horse rarely matched by other equine artists.

Constantly seeking to remain fresh, Clark uses a variety of mediums to express the subtlety of mood and emotions in her art: pencil and conte, acrylics, colored pencil and gouache. Clark’s most recent works have taken a more ethereal, expressionistic turn. And though she has made her reputation as an equine artist, she has never been limited to that. Increasingly, Clark is receiving a large number of commissions to draw and paint other companion animals.

Clark’s work is drawing attention both here in Southern Ontario and in places as far away as California, in 1995, her work”Almost Ready”won first place in the pencil division at the annual Equine Art Auction, held at the prestigious Royal Winter Fair. As further indication of the quality of her work, the piece was promptly bought by one of the jurors.

Clark is a member of the Equine Art Guild, and Shoreline Artists.
